Get Ready For Winter
Get Ready for Winter
AFT Insulation fall winds down, the chilly air is just about to turn into freezing temperatures and snowy winter weather. It’s a good time to complete outdoor maintenance and prep your home and automobile for the colder season.
A few simple tasks can save you time, money and potential discomfort as winter approaches. Move tender plants indoors or into a greenhouse. Mulch flower beds and perennials to protect the roots from frost and freeze. Cover bee hives and close entrances to help prevent ice damage. Trim limbs that overhang buildings or structures. Keep a firewood supply handy and ensure that heating systems are working properly. Clean chimneys and fireplaces. Keep a shovel, window scraper, blanket and bucket of sand or cat litter in your vehicle in case you’re stranded.
Maximize Efficiency With Insulation: Lower Energy Bills Fast
Check your furnace and add or replace a filter to make sure it is functioning efficiently for the coming months. Identify areas of your home that are drafty and seal them with caulking, weather stripping or foam insulation. Check the shingles on your roof and consider getting them replaced if needed. Consider aerating your lawn, reseeding and applying a winterizer fertilizer. Aerating and reseeding are better done before the ground freezes.
Create a communication and disaster plan with your family. Be prepared with food, water and essential medicines. If you must go outdoors, be sure to wear bright clothing and bring a headlamp or flashlight in case of power outages or road conditions that cause travel difficulties.
